In the winter of 2014, a dispute on a Paterson, New Jersey street corner escalated to a fatal conclusion for Ferron Green. On the evening of February 22, the 33-year-old male was shot and killed following an argument in the vicinity of Ellison and East 18th streets. The man responsible for his death, Courtney Simpson, then 34, immediately fled the state to evade capture.
The investigation into Green's death led authorities to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where Simpson was located and apprehended in December of that same year. He was subsequently extradited back to New Jersey to face charges related to the shooting.
After a trial that commenced in September 2017, a jury deliberated for four days before reaching a verdict.
In October 2017, Courtney Simpson was convicted of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and weapons charges for the killing of Ferron Green. The verdict brought a close to the nearly four-year-long quest for justice for Green's death. Simpson faced a potential sentence of up to 40 years in prison for his actions. Following the conviction, his $1 million bail was revoked, and he was remanded to the Passaic County Jail to await his sentencing.
