On a spring afternoon in Paterson, New Jersey, the life of 24-year-old Ismail Nolan 'Izz' Walker was tragically cut short. The Black male was at B&B Tires & Auto Repair on 10th Avenue on April 15, 2014, when an argument escalated into fatal violence. During the dispute, a man named Tremaine Adams pulled out a. 38 caliber handgun and shot Walker, who succumbed to his gunshot wounds shortly thereafter.
The investigation into Walker's death led authorities to two men: Tremaine Adams and
Neil Morrison. Surveillance footage captured the pair returning to Adams' home with the firearm used in the shooting. In the face of the evidence against them, both men eventually took responsibility for their roles in the tragic event.
In February 2017, nearly three years after the shooting, Adams and Morrison pleaded guilty to their respective charges. Adams, the shooter, pleaded guilty to first-degree aggravated manslaughter, admitting under oath that he fired the weapon that killed Ismail Walker. Morrison pleaded guilty to a second-degree charge of certain persons not to have a firearm. The conclusion of the legal proceedings brought a measure of justice for Walker, as Adams was sentenced to 16 years in state prison, while Morrison received a 12-year sentence.
