In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 28, 2014, the life of 33-year-old Milton Crespo III of Garfield, New Jersey, was tragically cut short by gunfire in Paterson. A Hispanic male, Crespo had been among a group of people at the intersection of Union Avenue and Jasper Street.
A Paterson police officer had instructed the group to disperse at approximately 2:35 a.m. Following this directive, the individuals, including Crespo, moved to a location in front of a house on Jasper Street.
It was there that the fatal shots were fired, striking Crespo. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the others who had been with him fled the scene. When law enforcement arrived, they discovered Crespo's body in the street.
The Paterson Police Department's Detective Captain Heriberto Rodriguez confirmed that an investigation into the homicide was launched. Detectives were working to identify a suspect by analyzing evidence recovered from the crime scene, which included surveillance footage, DNA, and fingerprints. In an effort to gather more information, a $1,000 reward was offered for any tips that could lead to an arrest and conviction in the case. Despite the ongoing investigation and the offered reward, there have been no subsequent public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in the killing of Milton Crespo. The case, as far as publicly available information indicates, remains an unsolved homicide.
