In the early morning hours of Sunday, November 23, 2014, the life of 19-year-old Kayshawn Sumpter of Paterson, New Jersey, was tragically cut short by gun violence. Around 4 a.m., the sound of gunshots pierced the pre-dawn stillness in the vicinity of 12th Avenue. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered Sumpter lying on the sidewalk, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead a short time later.
