In the early morning hours of a summer Saturday in Paterson, New Jersey, the life of Kashaad James was tragically cut short. On August 6, 2016, the 20-year-old man was gunned down in a shooting that also left two other men wounded. The incident unfolded around 1:04 a.m. at the intersection of Godwin Avenue and Carroll Street.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered James on the sidewalk with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to St.
Joseph's Regional Medical Center, but medical personnel were unable to save him, and he was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Another victim, a 25-year-old man, was found nearby on Governor Street and Rosa Parks Boulevard and was also taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.
A third victim, a 23-year-old man, had left the scene of the shooting and gone home. His family members later called for medical assistance, and he was transported to the hospital by ambulance, where he was treated for his injuries and subsequently released. In the wake of the shooting, police urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigation. To date, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the death of Kashaad James, and no suspects have been officially named.
