In the late hours of a Wednesday night in Paterson, New Jersey, the life of 26-year-old Asmar Williams was tragically cut short by gunfire. On June 27, 2018, police responded to the intersection of Fair and Auburn streets around 10:34 p.m. to find Williams lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at 11:14 p.m.
This violent incident added another statistic to the city's struggle with gun violence.
Williams, known affectionately as 'Gizz' to friends and family, was a father to a son named Kamori. His life, however, had not been without its own encounters with the law. In 2011, he was arrested during a major law enforcement sweep that targeted the Fruit Town Brims set of the Bloods street gang. At that time, authorities had alleged that Williams and another man had discharged firearms at unknown individuals on two different occasions.
Despite the efforts of the Paterson Police Department and the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, the investigation into Asmar Williams's murder has grown cold. To date, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with his shooting. The case remains an open and unsolved homicide, leaving a void for his family and a community still searching for answers and an end to the violence that plagues their streets. Authorities have appealed to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case.
