In the early hours of a Saturday in Paterson, New Jersey, a dispute tragically cut short the life of 34-year-old Kyheem Clark. On May 6, 2023, at approximately 1:14 a.m., patrol officers in the area of East Main Street and Hillman Street were flagged down for a report of a man down. There they found Kyheem Clark with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was swiftly transported to St.
Joseph's University Medical Center, but he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The investigation that followed pointed to an altercation that occurred at a local tobacco shop. Authorities determined that a dispute had taken place between Clark and the shop's owner, 47-year-old Calvin King. The confrontation escalated, leading King to shoot Clark.
Calvin King, a Paterson resident, was subsequently arrested in connection with the fatal shooting. He was charged with unlawful possession of a shotgun and certain persons not to possess a weapon. Following his arrest, King was taken into custody and is being held at the Bergen County Jail, with the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office filing a motion for his pre-trial detention.
