In the early morning hours of a November day, the quiet of a Moonachie, New Jersey residence was shattered by a tragic event that claimed the life of 33-year-old April Ellialtioglu. Authorities were dispatched to the home shortly after 3 a.m. following a 911 call from another person residing there. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene in the living room.
On the floor lay the bodies of April Ellialtioglu and her 34-year-old boyfriend, Jeff Scarpanito Jr. Both had sustained apparent gunshot wounds to the head. The initial investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office led them to believe that the incident was a murder-suicide. It is believed that Scarpanito Jr. fatally shot Ellialtioglu before turning the weapon on himself.
The couple was described as being in a dating relationship and were engaged.
They were found in their home located on West First Street. The investigation into their deaths involved the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office's Major Crimes Unit, the Bergen County Medical Examiner's Office, and the Bergen County Sheriff's Department's Bureau of Criminal Identification. As the case was determined to be a murder-suicide, with the perpetrator deceased, there were no ensuing arrests.
