During questioning, he confessed to a total of seven murders, including that of Vera Stevens. His confession brought a chilling and perplexing motive to light; he stated that he had known Stevens from his youth and that 'Something happened and I just killed her.' To avoid the possibility of a death sentence, Snyder pleaded guilty to the multiple homicides and was subsequently sentenced to six life sentences, ensuring he would never again pose a threat to the community he had terrorized.
