In the summer of 2020, the life of 37-year-old Lateemah Leavy was tragically cut short in her Camden, New Jersey home. On Sunday, July 5th, police responded to a call and discovered Ms. Leavy deceased in an upstairs bedroom of her residence on North Congress Road. An investigation swiftly determined that she had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
The circumstances surrounding her death pointed to a domestic tragedy.
Authorities identified her 29-year-old boyfriend, Junior English, as the primary suspect. It was English himself who had placed a 911 call, not from the scene of the crime, but from a vehicle in the nearby city of Pleasantville, reporting that Leavy was not breathing. This call ultimately led law enforcement to his location, initiating a tense standoff that lasted for hours.
Following the prolonged confrontation with police in Pleasantville, English fled his vehicle, armed with a handgun, and ran into a wooded area. He was apprehended shortly after by an officer from the Absecon Police Department without any further violence. Junior English was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Lateemah Leavy and was also held on weapons charges.
