On a tragic night in Camden, New Jersey, a young woman's life was cut short in a senseless act of violence. Tierra Pressley, a 24-year-old female from Woodlynne, was fatally shot on June 17, 2007, an innocent victim caught in the crossfire of a targeted attack. The incident unfolded in the early morning hours, around 2:30 a.m., in the parking lot of the Seventh and Kaighns Lounge.
Pressley had just left the establishment with her cousin and was talking with a friend, Adrien Jackson, when the chaos erupted.
Without warning, a gunman approached and opened fire with a semi-automatic handgun, unleashing multiple rounds. The intended target of this brutal ambush was Jackson, who was critically wounded but ultimately survived after a month in the hospital. Pressley, however, was struck multiple times in her back, torso, arm, and leg. Her cousin rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. The shooting was later described by prosecutors as a 'Bloods initiation hit,' ordered because Jackson had allegedly disrespected some of the gang's associates.
The investigation into the tragic death of Tierra Pressley led to the arrests of two men from Camden, Manfred Younger and Anthony Parker. Following a seven-week trial, a Camden County jury convicted Younger of murder, attempted murder, and several other related offenses. His co-defendant, Parker, was acquitted of all charges. During the trial, testimony revealed that Younger had told a cellmate that the shooting was part of his initiation into the Bloods street gang and that Pressley was simply in the way.
In the end, justice for Tierra Pressley came in the form of a lengthy prison sentence for her killer. Manfred Younger was sentenced to 78 years in state prison for the murder of Pressley and the attempted murder of Adrien Jackson. The judge who handed down the sentence described the murder as a 'cold, calculating, senseless' act committed with a total disregard for human life. While the conviction and sentence brought a measure of closure to a painful chapter, it could not undo the profound loss of a young woman who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.
