On a Saturday afternoon, May 23, 2015, the life of 20-year-old Earlquan Moore was tragically cut short by gun violence in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The young man was in the vicinity of the 200 block of 3rd Street when he was shot. The incident occurred at approximately 3:15 p.m., across the street from Brophy Field where a baseball game was underway. First responders rushed Moore to Trinitas Regional Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving.
The investigation into the shooting was launched immediately, becoming a joint effort between the Union County Prosecutor's Office's Homicide Task Force and the Elizabeth Police Department. In the initial stages, authorities reached out to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward.
The Union County Crime Stoppers offered a significant reward of up to $10,000 for any information that would lead to an arrest and indictment in the case, a plea that highlighted the urgency and seriousness of the crime.
Two years after the fatal shooting, in May 2017, the investigation continued, and authorities released video clips to the public in the hopes of generating new leads. The footage showed two persons of interest, a male and a female, near a white, four-door Nissan Altima from the 2013-2015 model years. The male was described as having long, black dreadlocks and was seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants. The female was depicted wearing a white tank top and dark pants. Despite these efforts and the ongoing joint investigation, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made in connection with the death of Earlquan Moore. The case remains a painful and unresolved chapter for his family and the community.
