In the summer of 2015, the life of 18-year-old Sharod T. Jefferson, a Black male from East Orange, New Jersey, was tragically cut short. On the evening of July 25th, at approximately 9:40 p.m., police were flagged down by bystanders on Dodd Street. There, they discovered Jefferson unresponsive and lying on a lawn. He was swiftly transported to University Hospital in Newark for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Sharod T.
Jefferson was pronounced dead the following morning at 10:08 a.m. Authorities immediately classified the incident as a shooting homicide and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force took the lead on the case, appealing to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for this act of violence.
In the years that have passed since Jefferson's untimely death, the investigation has remained ongoing. To date, there have been no arrests made in connection with the homicide, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains an open and active investigation, with law enforcement continuing to seek information from the community to bring a resolution to the case and provide answers for Jefferson's family and loved ones.
