On a cold February afternoon in Camden, New Jersey, 22-year-old Nicholas Rowser was shot and killed. The incident, which occurred around 4 p.m. on February 7, 2016, unfolded on the 1100 block of Morton Street. Responding officers discovered Rowser at the intersection of Mount Ephraim Avenue and Morton Street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Witnesses at the scene described a harrowing
sequence of events. According to one account, the gunman approached Rowser on Morton Street and began firing. After Rowser fell to the ground, the assailant reportedly stood over him and fired additional shots, ensuring the fatal outcome of the attack.
In the days following the shooting, the investigation quickly led to a suspect, Tajmir Wyles, a 21-year-old man from Middletown, Delaware, who was known by the nickname 'Fatboy.' A witness identified Wyles as the shooter. After being pursued by the U.S. Marshals Service, Wyles surrendered to authorities at the Camden County Police headquarters on February 24, 2016. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with Nicholas Rowser's death. Following his arrest, a Superior Court Judge set his bail at $750,000. Wyles was later indicted for first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
