In a tragic turn of events on a Saturday morning, 18-year-old Yahmir Catoe, a recent high school graduate from Camden, New Jersey, was fatally shot during a botched robbery. The incident occurred around 10:15 a.m. on May 14, 2022, at Reverend Evers Park in Camden. Catoe, a male, was remembered by a former teacher as one of the 'sweetest, most respectful students I've ever had'.
The young man's life was cut short when two men, identified as 19-year-old Mihkael Greene and 21-year-old Nysar
Streater, both from Camden, attempted to rob him at gunpoint. During the struggle, Streater was reportedly restraining Catoe when Greene fired his weapon. The shot not only struck and killed Catoe, but also hit Streater in the hand. First responders found Yahmir Catoe on the ground with a gunshot wound and transported him to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead later that afternoon at 4:22 p.m.
The suspects were quickly apprehended by authorities. Nysar Streater was taken into custody at the same hospital where Catoe was treated, as he was seeking medical attention for his gunshot wound. Mihkael Greene was arrested the following day by the U.S. Marshals Service. Both men were charged with felony murder and second-degree firearms offenses in connection with the death of Yahmir Catoe.
