In the early morning hours of December 20, 2016, the life of 29-year-old Shaun L. Johnson was tragically cut short in Camden, New Jersey. Johnson, a Black male known affectionately to some as 'Sin,' was discovered inside a parked car at the intersection of East State Street and River Road, suffering from gunshot wounds. The discovery was made around 1:22 a.m.
after police responded to a ShotSpotter activation for multiple gunshots in the area.
Emergency responders transported Johnson to Cooper University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at approximately 2:25 a.m. His death added to a wave of violence that was gripping the city at the time, prompting intensified efforts from the Camden County Police Department to curb the bloodshed.
In the years that have followed, the investigation into Shaun Johnson's murder has remained open. Authorities from the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department have continued to investigate the case, exploring potential connections to other violent incidents in the area. However, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his killing. The case stands as a painful reminder of the persistent issue of gun violence, leaving a family and community still waiting for answers and for justice to be served.
