In the early morning hours of November 5, 2024, the life of 23-year-old Alberto Cirino was tragically cut short in a parking lot on the Near Westside of Syracuse, New York. Officers responded to a call of a person down at 320 W. Taylor Street and discovered Cirino suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical care was administered at the scene before he was rushed to University Hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Alberto Cirino, a resident of the nearby suburb of Liverpool, succumbed to his injuries. He was a male with a passion for boxing and rapping, and was a father to a young daughter.
The Syracuse Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division immediately launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. Their efforts over the next few days led them to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. The investigation pointed to 39-year-old Wilfrey Carrasquillo of Syracuse as the individual responsible for Cirino's death. The investigation spanned multiple states as law enforcement tracked the suspect's movements.
On November 8, 2024, three days after the shooting, members of the Boston Police Department's Fugitive Apprehension Unit located and arrested Wilfrey Carrasquillo in Boston, Massachusetts. He was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held in Boston while awaiting extradition back to Syracuse to face charges. Carrasquillo has been charged with second-degree murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the death of Alberto Cirino. The case against him is pending his return to New York.
