In the late hours of a Saturday in Camden, New Jersey, the life of 22-year-old Luis Delgado was tragically cut short. On March 29, 2025, just before 11 p.m., gunfire erupted in the area of the 600 block of Elm Street, a sound that prompted a police response after a ShotSpotter activation. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered a chaotic situation and one gunshot victim, but Delgado was not among them.
Delgado, a Camden resident, was privately transported to Cooper University
Hospital. He was pronounced dead at approximately 11:34 p.m. from the injuries he sustained in the shooting. Another young man, 21-year-old Francisco Benavides of Pennsauken, was found by police at the scene and also taken to the same hospital, where he too succumbed to his wounds.
The investigation into the double homicide was immediately launched by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department. Authorities have been actively looking into the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting of the two young men. Despite the ongoing investigation, no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Luis Delgado and Francisco Benavides.
