On a late Friday afternoon in Camden, New Jersey, tragedy struck when 20-year-old Justin Ingram was fatally shot. The incident occurred on September 25, 2020, around 3:30 p.m. on the 3000 block of Hope Street. Police responded to reports of a shooting and found Ingram suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but succumbed to his injuries less than an hour and a half later.
The investigation into the death of the young man, a male resident of Camden, soon focused on a teenage suspect. Detectives utilized surveillance footage that captured parts of the events leading to the shooting. Through witness identification, authorities were able to name 15-year-old Michael Allen, also from Camden, as the individual in the video.
Just three days after the fatal shooting, on September 28, investigators located Allen. When they attempted to approach him for questioning, he fled but was apprehended and arrested.
Evidence collected from Allen at the time of his arrest later connected him to Ingram's murder.
Initially charged as a juvenile, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office later announced that Allen would be charged as an adult. The charges against him included one count of first-degree murder, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree resisting arrest. Following the charges, he was held in custody awaiting a detention hearing.
