In the South Ward of Newark, New Jersey, a fatal shooting shattered the evening of March 1, 2018. Eric Lasure, a 30-year-old man, was on the 100 block of Leslie Street when he was shot at approximately 8:00 p.m. According to one account, Lasure was in the process of getting items from a vehicle when the gunfire erupted.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and Lasure was rushed to University Hospital. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly before 10:15 p.m., just over two hours after the shooting.

Detectives canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses to piece together the events that led to Lasure's death. At the time of the initial reports, authorities had not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide.
