On a Sunday evening in Newark, New Jersey, 26-year-old Yasin Calloway was found shot to death, his life brought to an untimely and violent end. It was October 8, 2017, when police responded to reports of gunfire on Irvine Turner Boulevard. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered a vehicle where Calloway and another man, 33-year-old Stefan Tinsley of East Orange, were both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit and detectives from the Newark Police Department were soon tasked with unraveling the events that led to the double homicide. Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly confirmed that an active and ongoing investigation was immediately launched by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force.
In the wake of the shooting, authorities put out a call to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible. A search for the suspect or suspects was initiated, with law enforcement urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the Prosecutor's Tips Line. At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made, and the investigation into the deaths of Yasin Calloway and Stefan Tinsley continued.
