In the quiet afternoon of March 24, 2019, a burst of violence shattered the peace in an Irvington, New Jersey neighborhood, claiming the life of a young man with a promising future. Zaveuxn Waynick, a 20-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in the 100 block of Park Place. The incident, which occurred around 1:39 p.m., left the community in shock and mourning.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but it was too late to save the young man, and he was pronounced dead.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with the Irvington Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the shooting.
