In the late hours of a Monday night in July 2020, a young Black man named Alex Jean, 24, was pronounced dead. The incident that led to his death began on the border of Newark and Irvington, New Jersey, a little before 11:38 p.m.
Reports from that evening describe a harrowing scene where an unidentified gunman chased Jean before opening fire. Struck by multiple bullets, Jean collapsed just inside the Irvington border. When police arrived, they found his lifeless body.
