In the early morning hours of August 22, 2015, a fatal encounter unfolded in Irvington, New Jersey, that ended the life of 27-year-old Johnathan Vargas-Matilde. The incident took place at approximately 3:07 a.m. outside the Santa Fe Pizzeria and Deli located at 1428 Springfield Avenue. Vargas-Matilde, a Mexican immigrant, was with another individual when they were confronted by three men.
