In the summer of 2014, a young man's life was cut short on the streets of Kansas City. Theodore Bass-Brooks, a 20-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on the evening of July 29, 2014. The incident took place in the 3600 block of Brooklyn Avenue, where police responded to reports of a shooting and found Bass-Brooks with gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigations into the homicide revealed that a disturbance involving several people occurred just
before the shooting at approximately 12:20 a.m. In the immediate aftermath, two other young men who had also sustained gunshot wounds from the same incident arrived at a local hospital by private vehicle; their injuries were not considered life-threatening. Authorities learned that Bass-Brooks had been on a city bus with two other individuals prior to the fatal encounter. It is believed that one of these individuals was the person who shot him.
Despite the initial leads and public appeals for information from the Kansas City Police Department, the case has grown cold. To date, there have been no arrests made in connection with the murder of Theodore Bass-Brooks, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains open, with law enforcement continuing to seek any information that might lead to a resolution and bring justice for the young victim and his family.
