In the late hours of a Tuesday evening in Newark, New Jersey, the life of 31-year-old Shaquan Breedlove was tragically cut short. On May 18, 2021, at approximately 11:49 p.m., gunfire erupted on the 200 block of Seymour Avenue, leaving the young man gravely wounded. First responders rushed to the scene and transported him to University Hospital, where medical staff fought to save him. Despite their efforts, Shaquan Breedlove succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 2:11 a.m.
on Wednesday, May 19, 2021.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with the Newark Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Authorities have been actively looking into the circumstances surrounding the incident and seeking information from the public to help piece together the events of that night. To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains active and ongoing as law enforcement officials continue their search for those responsible for Mr. Breedlove's death.
Shaquan, known affectionately as 'Quannie' to his loved ones, was a Newark native, born on March 24, 1990. He was a graduate of Malcolm X Shabazz High School and had worked for several companies, including Newark Waste Management Co., Toys R Us, and Marshals, where he held a position as a store manager. He had aspirations of pursuing a career in law and one day owning his own trucking business. In his personal time, he enjoyed playing basketball and football and cherished spending time with his family and friends, especially his niece and nephew. His death left a void in the community, and the search for answers and justice continues.
