In the late afternoon of August 14, 2019, tragedy struck in a parking lot in the 400 block of Littleton Avenue in Newark, New Jersey. Anthony Starks, a 31-year-old male, was discovered suffering from apparent gunshot wounds at approximately 5:30 p.m. The grim discovery prompted an immediate response from Newark police.
Emergency medical services rushed Starks to University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 5:54 p.m.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, launched an investigation into the fatal shooting.
The investigation into the death of Anthony Starks was announced as active and ongoing. At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the homicide. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the shooting.
