On a summer evening in Newark, New Jersey, tragedy struck 27-year-old Antonio McCrimmon. On Monday, August 16, 2021, at approximately 7:53 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the night in the area of Central Avenue and South 9th Street. Responding to reports of shots fired, Newark Police discovered a grim scene. They found McCrimmon in the street, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported the young man to University Hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life.
Despite their efforts, Antonio McCrimmon was pronounced dead at 8:07 p.m., a little over ten minutes after the initial police response. The male victim's death was one of two unrelated fatal shootings that occurred in Newark within a two-day span.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with detectives from the Newark Police Department, immediately launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Authorities have publicly appealed for anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact the task force. To date, there has been no public announcement regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in the ongoing investigation into the death of Antonio McCrimmon.
