In the early morning hours of November 17, 2021, a burst of violence in Newark, New Jersey, claimed the life of 63-year-old Michael Uthman Brown, a male resident of East Orange. At approximately 12:22 a.m., Newark Police were called to the 500 block of Orange Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Brown near a restaurant, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported him to University Hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Michael Uthman Brown was pronounced dead at 1:00 a.m. The incident was part of what was described as a violent night of shootings in the city.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is leading the investigation into Mr. Brown's death. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The investigation remains active and ongoing as law enforcement continues to seek information from the public to bring those responsible to justice.
