On the night of September 6, 2014, 22-year-old Leo A. Wright, a Black / African American man from Newark, New Jersey, was caught up in a burst of gunfire that would become one of several deadly incidents to shake the city over a single violent weekend. Officers were sent to Bergen Street after reports of shots fired; when they arrived, they found Leo on the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds that left no doubt this was a deliberate act of violence.
