Tiera Lachelle Rivers, a 26-year-old African American woman from Sacramento, California, was tragically shot and killed on April 19, 2025. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. along the 900 block of Arden Way, near the Salvator Apartments. Law enforcement responded to an incomplete report of a shooting and arrived to find Rivers suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to her family, the events leading up to her death stemmed from a domestic violence incident. Rivers had been living with her older sister, Amber, at the apartment complex. On the afternoon of the shooting, she walked in on an argument between Amber and her ex-boyfriend. The dispute escalated, and Rivers intervened in an attempt to protect her sister. Tragically, this act of selflessness cost her life.
Later that evening, police pulled over a vehicle associated with the homicide along Interstate 80 near Norwood Avenue. Inside the vehicle were multiple individuals, including the suspected shooter. As officers approached, the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Tigan Allen Duvall, reportedly shot himself and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident.
Rivers' family has since spoken out about her bravery and the circumstances surrounding her death. Her sisters described her as a kind, protective, and energetic person who always prioritized the well-being of her loved ones. In her honor, they are working to establish an organization aimed at supporting women experiencing domestic violence, ensuring that her sacrifice is remembered and that others in similar situations receive the help they need.
The Sacramento Police Department continues to encourage anyone with information about the case to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers. The community remains shaken by the violence, especially given that the shooting occurred in broad daylight in a residential area where children were present.
