On the evening of November 18, 2019, 49-year-old Hassan Webb was walking home from work on the 100 block of South 8th Street in Newark, New Jersey, when his life was tragically cut short. Caught in the crossfire of a gun battle, Webb was struck by the gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene around 6:39 p.m. He was a married man of over two decades who had recently relocated to the neighborhood with his wife.
Family members described him as a dedicated and fun-loving individual who was
deeply committed to his family. His nephew recalled how Webb had been instrumental in raising him and his siblings after their mother passed away, stepping in as more of a brother than an uncle. The shooting was part of a surge of violence in Newark over a two-day period that resulted in another fatality and several injuries, though authorities stated the incidents were unrelated.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force is handling the ongoing investigation into Webb's death. Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Investigators have urged anyone with information to come forward as they continue to seek leads to bring those responsible for Hassan Webb's death to justice. The suspects involved in the gun battle remain at large.
