In the early evening of June 13, 2024, the sounds of gunfire shattered the peace at Boys Park in Newark, New Jersey. When police arrived at the scene on Sussex Avenue and Duryea Street around 9 p.m., they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds near the basketball court. The victim was identified as Raymeer Shakim Tarver, a 25-year-old male. He was rushed to University Hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead at 9:42 p.m.
An investigation into the shooting
was launched by the Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. Their efforts led to the identification and arrest of two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting. The individuals taken into custody were Kawan McGill and Clevas McIntosh, who have since been charged with the murder of Tarver. Raymeer Shakim Tarver was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on August 24, 1998, and spent his formative years in Newark. He was active in youth sports, playing both basketball and football. Later, he moved to Trenton, New Jersey, where he held positions at several companies, including Meridian Furniture Company, SS Warehouse, and FedEx Warehouse. Known for his sense of humor and intelligence, he enjoyed rapping in his spare time and was a father.
