On June 13, 2024, at approximately 9 p.m., Newark police responded to reports of gunfire at Boys Park, located at Sussex Avenue and Duryea Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 25-year-old Newark resident, Raymeer Shakim Tarver, near the park's basketball court, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was promptly transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:42 p.m.
