On a cold December evening in Newark, New Jersey, 24-year-old Quamir Nelson’s life was cut short in a hail of gunfire. The fatal shooting on December 30, 2021, near the intersection of Pomona Avenue and Aldine Street, was not the first attempt on his life. Months earlier, in April of the same year, Nelson had been critically injured in a drive-by shooting while sitting in his car on the very same street.
