In the evening hours of a Sunday in Newark, New Jersey, a life was tragically cut short. Lewis Griffith, a 29-year-old male, found himself on Peabody Place on October 23, 2016, when gunfire erupted around 8:30 p.m. The violence of that moment would prove fatal for Griffith, who was shot and pronounced dead at the scene just eleven minutes later.
The aftermath of the shooting set in motion an investigation by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force.
Their efforts, in collaboration with the FBI Fugitive Task Force, led to a significant development in the case. A suspect, 24-year-old Raheem Brison, also a resident of Newark, was identified and apprehended.
Brison faced serious charges in connection with Griffith's death, including murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. Following his arrest, he was detained at the Essex County Correctional Facility. The authorities announced that the investigation into the shooting remained active and ongoing as they continued to piece together the events that led to the untimely death of Lewis Griffith.
