On a Sunday evening in Newark, New Jersey, the life of 18-year-old Daquill M. Grant was tragically cut short. On September 4, 2016, police officers on routine patrol heard the sound of gunshots ring out. Rushing to the scene on South 9th Street, they found Grant unresponsive, suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The young man, a resident of Union but born in Newark, was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
In the days that followed, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark Public Safety Director worked to piece together the events that led to the teenager's death. Their investigation soon pointed to a suspect, another 18-year-old from Newark named Quadree Richardson Jr. On September 23, 2016, authorities announced that Richardson had been charged with the murder of Daquill Grant, as well as weapons offenses.
At the time of the announcement, Richardson remained at large and was considered armed and dangerous.
The manhunt for Richardson came to an end just a couple of days later. In the late hours of a Saturday night, officers from the East Orange Police Department located and arrested him at a residence in East Orange. The arrest was made without incident. Following his apprehension, Richardson was lodged in the Essex County Correctional Facility with his bail set at $750,000, awaiting his appearance in court to face the charges related to the death of Daquill Grant.
