On New Year's Eve, tragedy struck in Trenton, New Jersey, ending the life of 47-year-old Emanuel Ross. On the evening of December 31, 2021, police responded to a report of a shooting in progress on Beakes Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Ross lying on the sidewalk, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his head, face, and back. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The investigation
into the shooting led authorities to 35-year-old Shannon Williams, also a resident of Trenton. Surveillance footage from the nearby Donnelly Homes housing project reportedly captured the incident, showing a suspect, later identified as Williams, pulling out a gun and firing three times in Ross's direction. Based on this evidence, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office charged Williams with murder and weapons offenses. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Mercer County Correction Center to await a detention hearing.
