In the quiet of a late winter's night in southwest Memphis, a brutal act of violence ended the life of 30-year-old Jerome Williams. On March 3, 2015, a home invasion at his residence on Airview Road turned deadly, leaving a community in shock and a family mourning a senseless loss. The subsequent investigation would uncover a story of greed and violence that led to the swift conviction of two individuals.
The crime was particularly vicious, as Williams was found to have died from
multiple blunt force injuries to his head. The invasion of his home, a place that should have been a sanctuary, was a terrifying ordeal that ultimately cost him his life. The authorities investigating the case were able to identify two suspects in connection with the crime: Robert Belt and Jocelin Williams. Their motive appeared to be robbery, a crime that escalated to a brutal murder.
The wheels of justice turned quickly in this case. Belt and Williams were arrested and charged with especially aggravated robbery and first-degree murder. The evidence against them was compelling enough that a jury took approximately 30 minutes to reach a guilty verdict. Both Robert Belt and Jocelin Williams were sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Jerome Williams. In addition to the life sentences, they also received an additional 15 to 25 years for the robbery, with no possibility of parole, ensuring that they would not have the opportunity to inflict such harm on anyone else.
