In the late evening hours of July 11, 2022, the life of 19-year-old Tymere Wilcox was tragically cut short on a street in Camden, New Jersey. Around 10:43 p.m., multiple 911 calls alerted the Camden County Police Department to a person shot in the 2400 block of Denfield Street. Arriving at the scene, officers discovered Tymere Wilcox, a male, lying on the ground, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders quickly transported Wilcox to Cooper University Hospital in a
desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, his injuries proved too severe, and he was pronounced deceased at 12:10 a.m. The investigation into the fatal shooting was immediately launched by homicide detectives from the Camden Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, who described the case as active and ongoing as they sought information from the public.
For over a year, the case remained under investigation. Then, on August 15, 2023, a significant development occurred when the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended a suspect in Camden. Authorities arrested and charged 18-year-old Davante Trader with first-degree murder and weapons offenses in connection with the death of Tymere Wilcox. Following his arrest, Trader was remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility to await a future detention hearing in Superior Court.
