In the early hours of a Tuesday morning in Camden, New Jersey, the sound of gunfire pierced the quiet of the 1600 block of Pulaski Street. It was August 1, 2023, at approximately 12:34 a.m., when a ShotSpotter activation prompted a response from the Camden County Police Department. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a man suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victim was identified as 33-year-old Freddy Alfonso of Pennsauken.
He was rushed to Cooper University Hospital in a fight for his life. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Freddy Alfonso was pronounced deceased at 3:36 a.m. He was a male.
In the wake of the shooting, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Detectives are actively working to piece together the events that led to Alfonso's death.
