In the early morning hours of a Sunday in Jersey City, the life of 46-year-old Keshean Nettles was tragically cut short. On August 7, 2022, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet near Monticello Avenue and Astor Place. When police arrived at the scene, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Keshean Nettles, a resident of Jersey City, had been shot in the torso. Alongside him, a 49-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to his upper body.
Both men were rushed to the Jersey City Medical Center for emergency medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Keshean Nettles succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The second victim was reported to be in critical condition.
In the wake of the shooting, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department launched a joint investigation into the incident. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the death of Keshean Nettles and the wounding of the other victim. However, in the days and months that followed the initial reports, no suspects were publicly identified, and no arrests were announced in connection with the case. The investigation into the violent encounter that ended a life and left another hanging in the balance remains ongoing.
