In the early morning hours of May 9, 1979, the vibrant life of jazz vocalist Eddie Jefferson, a 60-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short on a Detroit street. The night had been one of performance and music, the opening of a tour with his friend and collaborator, saxophonist Richie Cole, at the historic Baker's Keyboard Lounge.
