Eddie Jefferson, a renowned jazz vocalist and lyricist, was tragically shot and killed on May 8, 1979, outside Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit, Michigan. Jefferson, aged 60 at the time of his death, had just finished a performance and was leaving the club around 1:35 a.m. when he was shot while walking out of the building. Witnesses reported seeing a late-model Lincoln Continental speeding away from the scene.
