Deputy Sheriff Carl L. Darling, Jr., aged 35, tragically lost his life on May 3, 1986, in Otsego, Michigan. Deputy Darling was shot and killed while transporting a pedestrian he had picked up. The suspect abducted Deputy Darling and then shot him. This incident occurred while Deputy Darling was performing his duties for the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, where he had served for three years.
