Paul Kenyon Butterfield II, a Michigan State Trooper, tragically lost his life on September 9, 2013, at the age of 43. Butterfield was conducting a routine traffic stop on Custer Road near Townline Road in Mason County when he was shot in the head by the driver he had pulled over. Despite being airlifted to Munson Medical Center, Butterfield succumbed to his injuries during surgery. Butterfield had served with the Michigan State Police for 14 years and was a U.S. Army veteran.
