The gathering, intended to raise funds for a proper headstone for a friend who had been killed a few years prior, took a tragic turn as uninvited guests arrived and tensions escalated. A fight reportedly broke out inside the lodge, spilling out into the parking lot where gunfire erupted.
Amid the pandemonium, JaColby Brown was fatally shot near the doors of the lodge. He was one of three young lives lost that night; Dupree Barnes was also shot and killed, while Jalisa Love was struck by gunfire and then run over by a vehicle fleeing the scene.
