In the late hours of September 22, 2013, a memorial party at the Elk's Charity Lodge in Muskegon, Michigan, descended into chaos and violence, resulting in the death of 20-year-old JaColby Brown. The gathering, intended to raise funds for a proper headstone for a friend who had been killed a few years prior, took a tragic turn as uninvited guests arrived and tensions escalated. A fight reportedly broke out inside the lodge, spilling out into the parking lot where gunfire erupted.
