In Muskegon, Michigan, a promising young life was tragically cut short on the evening of June 14, 2022. Mark Devon Lumpkin Jr., a 15-year-old Black/African American male, was found with gunshot wounds in the 400 block of Catawba Avenue. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after, leaving his family and the community devastated.
Mark, a student at Muskegon Middle School, was known for his vibrant personality and his love for sports, particularly basketball and wrestling. He was a cherished son, brother, and friend, remembered for his joyful spirit. His untimely death prompted an intensive investigation by the Muskegon Police Department as they worked to identify and apprehend the person responsible for the shooting.
The investigation led to a significant development on January 26, 2023, when authorities arrested 18-year-old Jamonte Brown in connection with the homicide. Brown was subsequently charged with the murder of Mark Devon Lumpkin Jr. He is being held at the Muskegon County Jail on a $250,000 bond. The legal proceedings against Jamonte Brown are ongoing as the community continues to seek justice for the loss of a young life taken too soon.
