In the quiet community of Pinconning, Michigan, a young man's life was tragically cut short on February 8, 2014. Brian Lee Charbonneau, a 25-year-old Caucasian male, was found deceased in his home located in the 5000 block of North Huron Road. Charbonneau was known by friends and family for his love of the outdoors, often spending his time hunting, fishing, and kayaking.
The circumstances of his death quickly led to a criminal investigation.
The focus of the investigation soon turned to his roommate and life partner, 26-year-old Peter Ziaya Heagany. Heagany was subsequently arrested and charged with open murder and felony firearm in connection with Charbonneau's shooting death.
Following his arrest, Heagany was arraigned in Bay County District Court and held without bond. As the legal proceedings unfolded, the case against him progressed to trial. Ultimately, Peter Heagany was found guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter. For his role in the death of Brian Charbonneau, he was sentenced to a prison term of 42 months to 15 years.
