Jordan Daniel Rogers, a 27-year-old male, had his life tragically cut short on May 12, 2014, in East Lansing, Michigan. A roofer by trade and a graduate of East Lansing High School, he was known for his charming personality and tender heart. He had also attended Lansing Community College.
The events leading to his death began earlier that day with a dispute at a local Rite Aid pharmacy.
Ricard Taylor, who was Jordan's neighbor, had an altercation with a pharmacist, Michael Addo, over questions about eye drops. Dissatisfied with the pharmacist's responses, Taylor left the store, only to return and fatally shoot Addo.
Following the shooting at the pharmacy, Taylor returned to his home, reloaded his handgun, and then proceeded to Jordan's residence. The two had reportedly argued the previous night, and Taylor was seeking to continue the confrontation. Upon arriving at Jordan's home, Taylor forced him to the back of the house and shot him multiple times. Despite his severe injuries, Jordan managed to make his way to a neighbor's doorstep before collapsing. He was found bleeding and in critical condition but ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
Ricard Taylor was arrested and charged with the murders of both Jordan Rogers and Michael Addo. During the subsequent investigation and trial, Taylor admitted to the killings. He was found guilty but mentally ill on two counts of first-degree murder and five weapons charges. His defense included claims that he believed his victims were morphing into werewolves. Taylor was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole and was to receive mental health care while incarcerated.
