In the early hours of a cool autumn morning in Detroit, Michigan, the life of 24-year-old Curtis Louis Goodman Jr. was tragically cut short. On October 25, 2014, the young man, known to be a diligent worker and an avid basketball enthusiast, was fatally shot following a rare night out to celebrate a birthday. Goodman, a Black/African American male, was employed at Chrysler and was remembered by his family as a mild-mannered and beloved individual who was the man of his family.
The
evening of October 24, 2014, began as a joyous occasion but spiraled into violence in downtown Detroit. Outside the Executive Cigar Bar near Campus Martius, an argument broke out between Goodman's group of friends and five other men. The verbal confrontation quickly escalated into a physical fight in a nearby parking lot. As the altercation seemed to subside and Goodman and his friends attempted to leave the scene in their vehicle, the situation took a deadly turn. The group of assailants opened fire on their car, and a bullet struck Goodman in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the wake of the senseless act of violence, the Detroit police initiated an investigation. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage from the area and appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification of the suspects. One of the men involved in the altercation was described as having dreadlocks. Despite these efforts and the profound grief of his mother, who called for justice for her only child, the investigation into Curtis Goodman's murder has not publicly resulted in any arrests. The current status of the case remains unresolved, and it is not publicly known if the individuals responsible for his death were ever brought to justice.
