Julie Rebecca "Becky" Lindsey, a 34-year-old woman from Durham, North Carolina, was tragically killed on October 27, 2022. Becky, who was also known as Julie Rebecca Pruner, was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend. She was born on August 13, 1988, in Milpitas, California, and later moved to Durham, where she graduated from Riverside High School in 2006. Becky was known for her intelligence, beauty, sociability, and creativity.
She had a passion for crafting, sewing, visiting the beach, and attending music festivals. Becky was also an animal lover and rescued her dog Ivy from a dog fighting ring. Despite her many talents and ambitions, Becky struggled with mental health disorders, which profoundly affected her life.
In the early hours of October 27, 2022, Becky was killed in a senseless act of violence. Her body was found in a park in Durham, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Durham Police Department quickly launched an investigation into her death. On October 28, 2022, police arrested 35-year-old Lamin Amie Njie in connection with Becky's murder. Njie was charged with first-degree murder, carrying a concealed gun, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He is currently being held in the Durham County Jail without bond. The preliminary investigation suggested that the shooting was not random.
Further developments in the case revealed that a second man, 57-year-old Richard Bowens, was also charged in connection with Becky's death. Bowens was charged with concealment/failure to report death, larceny of a motor vehicle, and possession of stolen goods. He is being held in the Durham County Jail under an $11,500 bond. The investigation into Becky's death is ongoing, and authorities continue to seek additional information from the public.
Becky's tragic death has left her family and friends devastated. She is survived by her three young sons, Zachary Bordeaux, Elijah Bordeaux, and Damian Lindsey, who are now grieving the loss of their mother. Becky's family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to support her children and ensure that their basic needs are met. A memorial service was held for Becky on November 13, 2022, at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham, where her loved ones gathered to honor her memory and celebrate her life.
